A new day, a new (outdoor) office

Working in a rural landscape fulfils a life-long ambition. And to work where I live, in the arts, is something else!

Find out more about projects I’m developing with creatives and communities across Northumberland’s remote North.

First, take a look back at a show I recently curated in the South East of the county, overlooking the sea…

What happens when you combine a Miners Institute, art and community?

Cambois Art Show 2024!

I curated the show at The Tute, a former Miners’ Institute overlooking the North Sea in the tucked-away village of Cambois, this summer. The hall was transformed into an exhibition packed with contemporary local artists and a nod to the many layers of the building’s history.

150 visitors and 20 artists over 2 days.

We even repurposed the old boxing bag hanger!

From one coastal community to another

It’s not often that tides, times and tasks align to mean I can work, cut off from the rest of the world, on an island that’s not (quite) an island!

So, I jumped at the chance to work with our schools partner and meet residents on Northumberland’s very own tidal island; Lindisfarne.

Together with the creative team for November Club’s newest project - more on that soon! - we started conversations with one of Holy Island’s few life-long residents to explore connections with seals, whistling and climbing rocks, as well as plan a series of creative writing days for children at the local school.

Exploring North Northumberland’s role in the global textile trade

Watch this space for a new immersive theatre show with November Club planned for June 2025, commissioned by Otterburn Mill and funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund!

I’m working with November Club, a team of creatives and communities in Otterburn to co-create a new production and transport audiences through spaces usually closed to the public.

We’ll also be celebrating the restoration of England’s last set of field tenter frames; previously used for drying cloth from the mill (pictured above).
